Okay Will Ferrell fans, this is your week! His new political comedy with Zach Galifianakis, The Campaign, is new on DVD and Blu-ray. Reviews for this one were mixed but generally favorable, so if you are a Ferrell freak, this looks like a great choice.
If you prefer independent films, you are also in luck, because not one, but two stellar offerings are also out this week: Safety Not Guaranteed and Ruby Sparks. If you're holed up at home because of the Superstorm Sandy, you really can't go wrong checking any of these films out. Whatever helps to pass the time, right?I'm not the world's biggest Will Ferrell fan, but if the film is solid overall, I'll see it. I suspect that's the case with The Campaign. The trailer looks hilarious and friends who saw it in theaters tell me it's not bad at all. It's all out war when Congressman Cam Brady (Ferrell) is finally challenged in an upcoming election by businessman Marty Huggins (Galifianakis). Hilarity ensues.
Yes, this is a good choice for anyone who needs a good laugh this week (and I suspect that's many of us).
Again though, if you're not keen on The Campaign, you've got two other stellar options. I have to be honest and say that Safety Not Guaranteed is THE movie I've been waiting for on DVD and Blu-ray. I am a huge Mark Duplass fan, and this film got excellent reviews. I can't wait to finally see it!
Another new DVD release worth mentioning: the dramedy Ruby Sparks, starring the always fantastic Paul Dano. He plays a writer who is struggling with writer's block, so he creates a character (Ruby) who comes to life -- or does she?
Hopefully all of you will get a chance to see at least one of these three great new DVD releases in coming days. Stay safe, everyone!
