Here we are now in the second week of September, and once again, we movie fans have a few nifty options among new DVDs. The releases this week on DVD and Blu-ray include the Kristen Stewart drama/adventure Snow White and the Huntsman and the dramedy What to Expect When You're Expecting.
Obviously, I think we've seen better weeks, new DVD-wise, but beggars can't be choosers. We've had precious few good quality releases lately, so I'll take what I can get!
I saw Snow White and the Huntsman in the theater, and while it was okay, it wasn't my favorite movie of the summer (that would be The Dark Knight Rises). As we left the theater, I remarked to our friends that I wish we'd waited for the DVD. If you did wait, you're in luck: It's finally out now. Here's the trailer:
My review in a nutshell: Kristen Stewart is boring, Charlize Theron is gorgeous and slightly creepy and the special effects in Snow White and the Huntsman are wicked cool (especially the Dark Forest scene). I hope that helps. And yes, this is the movie directed by Rupert Sanders, the man Kristen Stewart fooled around with behind Robert Pattinson's back.
What to Expect When You're Expecting is also new on DVD this week. This ensemble dramedy features an all-star cast, including Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Matthew Morrison, Elizabeth Banks, Anna Kendrick, Chace Crawford, Rodrigo Santoro and Dennis Quaid. And yes, it's about babies: having them and adopting them. Here's the trailer:
I love Elizabeth Banks. The trailer made me chuckle. I'll see it, though it'll probably be a late-night treat once everyone else goes to bed. Has anyone seen What to Expect? If so, did you love it or hate it?
